THE PARTYPOKER.NET WORLD CUP OF POOL will once again be returning to Manila in the Philippines following highly successful events in 2009 and 2010. Event owners Matchroom Sport and host broadcaster Solar Sports have agreed dates of Tuesday to Sunday 6th to 11th September.
The venue itself has yet to be determined but last year's event at Midtown Wing of Robinsons Place in Ermita, attracted enormous crowds throughout the six days of the competition.
Defending champions China (Jianbo Fu and Hewen Li ) will be back chasing the $60,000 top prize from the total purse of $250,000. They will be joined by 31 other international teams including two from the host nation.
This will be the sixth running of the World Cup of Pool following on from Newport, Wales (2006), Rotterdam, Holland in '07 and '08 and Manila, Philippines in '09, '10 and last year.
Last year was the second time that the Chinese pair has lifted the coveted trophy following victory in 2007. The Filipino pairing of Efren Reyes and Francisco Bustamante won the inaugural World Cup in 2006 and then again on home soil in 2009. The sole breach in this Far Eastern axis was completed by the USA who won in 2008.
The entire event will be broadcast by Solar Sports live across the Philippines with the live feed of the tournament available internationally. In addition Matchroom Sport will be producing a 31 x one hour highlights package of the event.
Commented Matchroom Sport Chairman Barry Hearn, “After the huge successes of this event in 2009 and 2010, Matchroom Sport are very excited to be once again returning to the Philippines.
“It is a pleasure to be working with the team at Solar Sports to bring all the excitement and drama of the World Cup of Pool to the millions of viewers in the Philippines and beyond.
“This event just gets bigger and better every year and we are looking forward to continued growth in Asia and around the world.”
