Francisco Bustamante has been named the 2002 AzBilliards Men's Player of the Year.
With six tournament wins in 2002, along with a very close second place finish at the World Pool Championships, Bustamante earned nearly $125,000 in prize money for the year. The decision really came down to Bustamante and Ralf Souquet, who both had amazing years. But as the saying goes, 'In order to be the man, you have to beat the man' and that is exactly what Bustamante did in 2002. At both the Gabriels Las Vegas Invitational and the IBC Tokyo 9-Ball International, it came down to Souquet and Bustamante in the finals. Both times, it was Bustamante holding the trophy and Souquet in second place.
