Kelly Fisher wins Tournament of Champions

Kelly Fisher came out in front of a field of three other WPBA favorites for a win at the Tournament of Champions in Uncasville, Ct on October 28th.

The first match of the day saw Xiao-Ting Pan face off with recent BCA Hall of Fame inductee Allison Fisher. Both players looked ready to go as they broke and ran racks on their breaks. The players would stay close with the score tied at 2-2 and 3-3. Pan would break dry in the case game, leaving Fisher no shot on the 1-ball. A perfectly played safe led to a tough shot on the 1-ball for Fisher, but Fisher has made her living making tough shots all of her life and this show was no different. After pocketing the 1-ball, Fisher went on to run the rack for a 4-3 win in the first set.

The second set also went hill-hill, but this time it was Pan who won the case game for the 4-3 win. That led to one sudden death game to decide a winner. Pan made a ball on the break, but missed the 2-ball to allow Fisher to the table. Fisher missed the 2-ball and Pan was back in business. The pool gods shined on Pan when she missed a 3-ball but fluked in the 9-ball. Ordinarily that would be the end of the game, but the Tournament of Champion requires players to call all shots. Pan would take full advantage of the spotted 9-ball and the chance to keep shooting as she ran out the rack to earn her spot in the finals.

The second match would see Kelly Fisher have a much easier time with Monica Webb. The first set went to Fisher 4-0 and she would go on to win the second set to earn her shot against Pan in the finals.

The first set of the finals started close with both players tied at 2-2. Pan would get to the hill at 3-2, but a miss on the 7-ball by Pan was all Fisher needed to tie the score at 3-3. Both players had chances in the case game, but Pan's miss on a long rail bank on the 8-ball was her final shot in the set as Fisher won 4-3.

Fisher came out with a 2-0 lead in the second set, but Pan came back to tie the score at 2-2. Pan would miss a 6-ball in rack five which allowed Fisher to regain the lead at 3-2. Pan was faced with a tough combination in rack six, which she missed and that was the end of her event as Fisher ran out the rack for the $20,000 payday.
